"Pujiang Innovation Forum - 2024 International Science,Technology and Innovation Think Tank Forum" was held in Shanghai from May 30 to 31, 2024. The forum was jointly hosted by Shanghai Institute for Science of Science, under the guidance of the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and the Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development. He Defang, Counselor of the State Council, and Shang Yuying, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Municipal Government, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The ceremony was chaired by Zhu Qigao, Deputy Director and First-Class Inspector of the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality. Distinguished scientists from top domestic and foreign think tanks on technological innovation, as well as policy-making experts, came together to discuss and exchange views on the core topic of "the Science of Science in the New Era," with more than 320 expert representatives participating in the conference.
Liu Dongmei, General Chair and Secretary of the Party Committee of Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development, elaborated in her keynote speech on the close connection between scientific and technological innovation and new quality productivity, providing profound insights for the participants.Researchers and professors like Mu Rongping, Chairman of Chinese Society of Association of Science of Science and Science and Technology Policy; Jeremy Hall, Professor of Innovation Studies of University of Sussex Business School; Chen Jin, Professor of the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University; James Wilsdon, Executive Director of Research on Research Institute of University College London; and Chen Haipeng,Vice Director (Presiding) of Shanghai Institute for Science of Science, and over ten experts and scholars delivered fascinating speeches on various topics and shared their research thoughts and practical explorations from different perspectives. These topics included strategic foresight shaping regional innovation development, the role of universities on science and technology policy, the shaping of the Global Science and Technology Innovation Hub, the trends of global research and development policy from perspective of metascience, and the social function of quantum science.
At the forum, the Shanghai Institute for Science of Science and the conference participants jointly released the Shanghai Declaration on Science of Science, which aims to promote the advancement of science with the times, consultation and cooperation and sharing. At the same time, the forum also announced the forthcoming books: "The Road to Innovation in a Big Country and Big City" edited by the research group of the Shanghai Institute for Science of Science and "Encyclopedia of Science and Technology" edited by Alan Irwin of Copenhagen Business School. The forthcoming books will provide new theoretical resources for research and practice in the field of scientific and technological innovation.
