A research fellow from SISS has been invited to attend 4e Rencontres Économiques du Nouvel Institut Franco-Chinois

  On June 25, 2025, Li Hui, research fellow, director of Science, Technology and Society Research Department at the Shanghai Institute for Science of Science (SISS), was invited to attend the 4e Rencontres économiques du Nouvel Institut Franco-Chinois held at Le Nouvel Institut Franco-Chinois. The forum extended the cooperative vision outlined in the Joint Statement of the People’s Republic of China and the French Republic on Artificial Intelligence and Global Governance, signed during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to France in 2024. Attendees included Yu Jiang, Consul General of China in Lyon; Hélène Duvivier-Dromain, Vice President of Lyon Metropolis; Thierry de La Tour d’Artaise, President of the Le Nouvel Institut Franco-Chinois; and Grégory Woimbée, Rector of the Catholic University of Lyon, all of whom delivered speeches. The forum gathered over 200 participants from government agencies, industries, and academia of both countries, focusing on AI's transformative impacts on society, policymaking, industry, and education. Discussions centered on establishing international governance mechanisms based on wide consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits.

  At the main forum, Li Hui joined experts from école Normale Supérieure de Lyon, the Catholic University of Lyon, East China Normal University, and Tongji University for a panel titled “Enjeux éthiques de l’intelligence artificielle. Comment penser une IA responsable?”. Li Hui introduced the AI Governance in 2025 A Year in Review produced by an international expert group convened by SISS, sharing several concepts and practical experiences in China's artificial intelligence governance.

  During the forum, SISS delegates from the Strategy and Planning Research Department, Industrial Innovation Research Department, and Science, Technology and Society Research Department of SISS held in-depth exchanges with representatives of French institutions, East China Normal University, and New York University Shanghai, and conducted fruitful dialogues on topics such as the ethical governance of artificial intelligence, which laid a solid foundation for enhancing Sino-French cooperation in AI governance.
