On the afternoon of September 22, 2025, Rainer Frietsch, Head of the Department of Innovation and Knowledge Economy at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (Fraunhofer ISI), visited the Shanghai Institute for Science of Science (SISS) for exchange. Chen Haipeng, Party Committee Secretary of SISS, Zhuang Jun, Director of the Research Department of Industrial Innovation, Zhang Mizhi, Director of the Research Department of Statistics and Evaluation, and representatives from the Science and Technology Development Research Center attended the meeting.

　　During the meeting, Secretary Chen Haipeng extended a warm welcome to Rainer Frietsch, highlighting Shanghai has prioritized scientific and technological innovation at the core of its development agenda and noting the solid foundations for collaboration between the two institutions. He expressed aspirations for multidimensional, multi-tiered cooperation with Fraunhofer ISI. Rainer Frietsch reflected on his enduring professional ties with SISS and outlined the operational scope of the Department of Innovation and Knowledge Economy. Subsequently, both parties held comprehensive discussions focusing on the utilization of patent data, researcher exchange mechanisms, and the collaborative development of think tank publications.
