On the morning of June 11, the 4th Expert Forum of 2026 (the 82nd session in total) was held in Room 517 of SISS. Professor James Wilsdon from University College London (UCL) delivered a keynote speech themed "Development Trends of Global Science of Science". Chen Haipeng, Party Secretary and Deputy Director of SISS, and Zhang Conghui, Deputy Director of SISS, attended the event. The forum was chaired by Research Fellow Li Hui, Director of the Research Department of Science, Technology and Society.
At the forum, Professor Wilsdon first briefly reviewed his research career in the field of Science of Science and praised the active participation of Chinese scholars at the Metascience 2025 Conference. He then elaborated systematically on multiple topics, including the significance of Science of Science, ongoing disciplinary restructuring, differentiated national policies for its development, the evolution of its three core dimensions, and the latest shifts in research funding paradigms. Following his presentation, Professor Chen Yue from Dalian University of Technology supplemented the discussion by reviewing the development of Science of Science in China and its key milestones from initial introduction to localized advancement.
During the subsequent discussion session, participants had in-depth exchanges with Professor Wilsdon concerning new features of research funding in the AI era. This Expert Forum helped our researchers keep abreast of the latest progress and development trends of Science of Science worldwide, offering valuable insights for further advancing relevant research at SISS.
